The research consortium Biomedical Physics of Infectionor Infectophysics of the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) aims to connect innovative biophysical methods available at the Campus of the Deutsches Elektronen Synchrotron (DESY) with research questions in infection biology and infection medicine. Major goals are: to 1) visualize the structure and dynamics of medically important pathogens and their interactions with host elements in high spatial and temporal resolution, 2) create ideas for novel therapeutical approaches against antibiotic resistant bacteria through time-resolved structural biology, 3) apply innovative biophysical techniques in infection biology and immunology, and 4) form and propagate an interdisciplinary research cluster to promote these goals. Infectophysics is supported by a grant from Hamburgs Joachim Herz Stiftung.
